I love to eat. Food is life. It’s how we nourish our bodies, fuel our favorite workouts, celebrate life and loved ones, and add enjoyment to the every day. Without the wonderful ability to feed our bodies with good food we would well, perish, but life itself would be devoid of so much happiness.
As an adolescent, I struggled with my weight and body image which continued well into my 20s. I numbed my emotions through eating which caused a never-ending vortex of shame, guilt, obsession, sadness, and loneliness. I followed every weight-loss trend, detox, read every diet book, exercised regularly, and although I could shed a few pounds with effort, I never felt self confident or in possession of my own body. On top of it all, I had a very lackluster relationship with food and a very limited understanding of how it could actually help me.
It wasn’t until I elevated my relationship with food through study, practice, and appreciation that the pounds dropped off, the negative feelings dissipated, and I truly began to eat in joyful abundance.
Food should bring contentment. It should energize, detoxify, and satisfy. It should fuel us, keep us healthy, and in a place where we can enjoy our lives.
It is possible to fall in love with yourself by falling in love with the food on your plate.
